As one of Hopewell's most visible landmarks, the Beacon Theatre opened in 1928 and has captured the hearts of the community from one generation to the next for over 75 years. The 1950’s were a golden era for the theatre, when many a Friday and Saturday night one could find the residents of Hopewell taking in a great show at the always bright and bustling Beacon. Sadly, in 1981, the theater had its last curtain call and the doors of the Beacon were closed indefinitely. But in 1987, with the establishment of Hopewell Preservation, Inc., a grassroots campaign was initiated to restore, revive and reopen the historic Beacon Theatre.

Just like the show, the history of the Beacon Theatre must go on. Having completed two phases of a three-phase restoration project, the Beacon Theatre is newly remodeled, bustling and revitalized. With the theatre’s transformation comes an entirely new amenity for all to enjoy. A grand reopening gala was held in May 2005 to applaud the dramatic progress that the Beacon Theatre has made, as well as to generate awareness and support for the last phase of the Beacon’s renovation. Throughout the remainder of 2005 and into 2006, Hopewell Preservation, Inc. will take on its most challenging project yet — the complete and total restoration of the theatre itself. With the completion of Phase III, the original theatre will be fully restored to its original beauty, allowing the Beacon to shine once more and bring show-stopping venues and grand galas for all to enjoy.
Thank you from the Beacon Theatre and Hopewell Preservation, Inc. for the generous support of those who have helped make this a reality.
